February 24, 2016 Challenge: Last Day Refresh & My HHP Check-Up

Standard

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.

ANNIE DILLARD

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone had a wonderful Wednesday. I’m glad it is almost over and I can up my calorie count a few hundredths.  The 3 Day Refresh isn’t a easy to go through but it works.  Always have to have a bigger goal than just losing weight.  It is the lifestyle you want to achieve after the weight loss.  For me, it is myself ready for the Vancouver Sun Run & the BMO Full Marathon coming this April & May.  Plus, all the exciting hiking and obstacle courses I did last year.

Today, was also my 6 month check-up to the ‘Healthy Heart Program’ at St Paul’s Hospital.  I was hoping that my weight loss will be good enough to get the seal of approval from my Doctor.  My blood work was already completed back on February 10th and the results came up clean and better than last August of 2015.  I am excited to say that I no longer need another 6 month follow-up!

I PASSED!

It has been a 2 year journey through the program starting at:

206 lbs on February 2014

195 lbs on August 2014

179 lbs on February 2015

178 lbs on August 2015

and lastly,

169 lbs as of today (February 2016)

My journey isn’t over still and I’m homing to reach my goal of 150 lbs by the end of this Summer.  With all the training and activities that will be coming, I will be chipping away at weight and those stubborn fat deposits.  Hopefully, I can finally be comfortable with my physical results.

I am very thankful for all the support I’ve received online and offline.  It has kept me accountable and humbled as well.  I haven’t been perfect but I was real to you and most importantly to myself.  I was my worst enemy but I had wonderful support that kept an open hand to lift me back up.  There is so much to life to experience and I no longer have to be on the sidelines to experience it.  A lot has happen to start out 2016 on the right foot but it also mean I shouldn’t be complacent.  I will also be chipping away at myself to improve.  This will never be a set goal or challenge to achieve.  Improving yourself isn’t a program or project.  Constantly self improving yourself is a lifetime dedication.  The world will constantly change and so should you.  You owe it to yourself to grow so challenge yourself everyday!

When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.

CONFUCIUS

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday. Had to take the day off today because Trevor had a high fever last night.  He is doing well today but had to miss school.  He’s a little warm but has more energy than yesterday.  Wife is off today and tomorrow so she can closely monitor him.

The other good thing about missing work today is that I missed pot luck.  It would be very difficult to avoid the food and the constant teasing from my co-workers to eat their delicious dishes.  With that sacrifice, I finished Day 1 at 170 lbs flat.  That is almost a 4 lbs loss in one day.  It was tough because I have a longer day with my graveyard shift but today will be easier with a shorter day because of missing work.

It also helped me attend another session of Toastmaster, a public speaking training program.  Usually, I try to leave work early so I can attend it but it is getting tougher to do so.  This week session was a little different because it was a contest so it was nice to see a different side to it.  The story from the guest speaker was amazing again so I’m looking forward to achieving that goal in the future.  I just want to better connect with other people and share my passion for fitness and also my other passion for investing in real estate.

Tomorrow, will be a big day for me with my appointment at the Healthy Heart Program.  My last appointment back in August of 2015 left me at 179 lbs.  I had a total of two off months which would have made this week or this month a lot easier but it is what it is.  You go through challenges but as long as you have goals and dreams to achieve you will not be derailed for too long.  They are placed on your path to strengthen you and see that all other challenges begin to pale in comparison to what you went through.  I am looking forward to finish today strong and hopefully hit a new low in my entire journey.  I’m one pound away from reaching my lowest weight of 169 lbs back in April of 2015.  Hopefully, this will be a new ceiling for me.

February 22, 2016 Challenge: Day 1 Refresh

Standard

Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.

-BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone had a marvelous start to their Monday.  First day back are never easy but it’s part of the journey.  Today, I’m doing my 3rd round of 3 Day Refresh.  I’m shedding those pounds to look good on the scale for my appointment to the ‘Healthy Heart Program’.  I’m hoping that this will be my last visit here so I can move on to bigger goals.  My last appointment back in August of 2015 left me at 178 lbs. A lot has happened between that time.  Life is full of challenges and I went through some lengthy ones.

Especially, now is the first time I exercised since the 9th of this month.  Spent a majority of that time stomach sick from some bad food that the family ate.  It hit me so fast that it took me 5 days to recover from that.  The other part of the delay in my exercise was that I stretched myself with activities and appointments that I stopped doing the daily tasks/routines that got me my great start to 2016.  I scaled back on a few of my activities and have a few more commitments I will need to turn down.

We will all go through challenges at one point in our life.  They aren’t there to hinder us or derail us unless you let it.  Everything is strategically placed on your journey for you to learn from and grow from.  What I went through helped me realize what was important to me and if all these activities align with what I’m trying to achieve for myself and my family’s future.  I thank my mentor for pointing that out to me.  It is wonderful to have someone that has went through the experience and went through the fire to guide you on your own journey.

Some challenges we can avoid through the experience of a mentor and/or leader but some challenges you must go through in order for you to overcome it and gain the experience if such a situation comes up again.  Though experiences are more valuable than the results that comes from it.  Results are just bonuses but the journey is the true treasure.  I started the morning at 173.9 lbs and I hope I can get to 165 lbs before my appointment this Wednesday.  Hope I can make it.  I’m also doing my round of 21 Day Fix so it won’t be easy but there is only 2.5 days left. Just gotta focus on one day at a time!

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope you all had a terrific Thursday.  Today is my son’s, Trevor Jaiden, 6th birthday.  Happy 6th Birthday, Trevor!  We love you so much and you mean the world to us.  All he wanted to do today was stay home, have cheese pizza from Pizza Hut & watch ‘The Lego Movie via Netflix: Priceless.

I’ll keep this really short.  I’m feeling light headed and sick.  I think all that junk food is being rejected out of my body.  I have to take breaks to collect my thoughts.

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone enjoyed their Wednesday.  I’m going to keep this really short tonight since I just got back from a wonderful night of networking at my Real Estate Meetup group.  So wonderful to talk to like-minded people who want to grow and succeed in real estate.

The main reason I will be posting to night is that I finally got my results from my blood work that I did earlier this morning.

I PASSED!

I am so happy to be cleared again.  My next step is to get my weight down to at least 165 lbs before the 24th appointment to the Healthy Heart Program @ St Paul’s Hospital.  If I can achieve that then I feel that I no longer need the program anymore.  I just wanna focus on my health & fitness with what I’ve learned so far and move on to bigger challenges.  It’s just been a superb journey so far this year.  God has been very good to me & my family.  Tomorrow will be Trevor’s 6th birthday so I’m looking forward to some time with him.  But for now I really need to hit the bed and wake up in 2 hours! 😀

Sometimes it is not enough to do our best; we must do what is required. –WINSTON CHURCHILL

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone enjoyed the 3 days off work.  Now it’s back to business and working towards your ‘Whys’.  The quote from Winston Churchill is perfect for the experience I had at my 2nd visit to Toast Master in New Westminster. Toast Master helps people in public speaking and I definitely need it in order to really connect with people to be better mentally & physically. To focus less on the distractions of life and towards growth & prosperity.  Our time here on Earth is already limited, why waste it on stuff that won’t serve you towards happiness.  I was caught off guard and simple froze on my 1st time to discuss a 2 min discussion on the question, “If I had the chance to bring something back from the past, what would it be?”

I was too busy with my role as time keeper. I guess there were few members today to fill out the different rolls so I was tasked to make sure speakers were mindful of their time.  I ended up not paying attention to the speaker giving out questions and had no clue what the topic was all about.  Luckily, a member suggested television and I started talking about cartoons I enjoyed in the 80s.  How they had more of a story line and a human connection compared to shows nowadays.  It was nerve racking and those 2 mins felt forever but I got through it.  It is a process as my mentor has mentioned to me so each day I practice, I will develop to a better person to serve my community.

Tonight will be the only time I will be attending the Meditation Center in Surrey.  I was able to focus for 45 mins and had healing done to my right arm and on my chakra points. I’m very thankful to the two lovely ladies that helped me out.  Hopefully, my arms won’t be too numb every time I sleep on my sides.  I was also able to help out one of our members, Rose.  She suffers from a car accident that has limited her mobility but there was 5 of us passing on energy to help her recover. I’m looking forward to seeing her walk again hopefully at the end of this year.  If you see her it seems that it will take years to recover but I have faith that God will utilize us to help in her recovery.

It is 10 pm now and it will be my last meal of the day.  I will need to fast for at least 10 hours with water only for my blood work tomorrow morning.  This is for my visit to the ‘Healthy Heart Program’ at St Paul’s Hospital.  I am hoping I have cleaner results from my last visit on August 2015.  I know that my levels went up a little from my February 2015 visit with little change to my weight but I have lost up to 10 lbs so far.  My visit is on the 24th of this month so I really need to push myself to get under 170 lbs for the first time since April 2015.  I’m really tired going back and forth between 170 to 180 lbs.  I must strengthen my ‘Whys’ in order to surpass my mind to procrastinate.  I know I’ve made changes as of late but we always need to re-invent to keep progressing to the next level.  I don’t want to make it a year just to hit the next level.  It must be now and hopefully after this blood work I can permanently work between 160 to 170 lbs range.  My end goal is to be around 150 and that might be possible with the activities lined up this Spring & Summer.  But it won’t happen if I don’t focus on today.  Find a way to win by just showing up everyday and working on you.  Life will be different when you reflect back 5 years from now.  You will thank yourself for doing that so just keep moving forward!

February 8, 2016 Challenge: Family Day in BC & Happy Chinese New Year!

Standard

I look to the future because that’s where I’m going to spend the rest of my life. -GEORGE BURNS

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone in BC enjoyed ‘Family Day’ today. Also, Happy Chinese New Year to all.  It is the year of the Monkey. Mine was last year and we all know what happen last year. Fun times! 🙂  Extremely blessed to have the family together on this special day.

I was able to start the day off with a jog this morning. Really pushed myself today and feeling the burn tonight.  A little meditation will help relieve that bad energy out.  I was even able to practice my healing meditation with my roommate after my run.  Hopefully, it helps a little with his back pain.  I’m a low level so I need more practice to flow more energy to my hands.  Really enjoy how 2016 is starting out and we are just in the 2nd month.

Tomorrow will be very busy for me.  With only BC having family day it will be a very busy day at work so I will keep this post short so I can rest soon.  After that I have a meetup at noon and it with Toastmasters, a company specializing in public speaking.  I’m extremely terrified with it but I need this to build confidence in myself and effectively spread the world on health and fitness.  Plus, my new journey to help people in real estate.  While I am there, Tristan has an appointment at BC Children’s for a check-up. Busy! Busy! Busy!  Going to end tomorrow night at the Meditation Center practicing what I’ve learned and also healing myself through meditation.

Love how things are aligning with my path.  I just need to learn how to manage my time and practice sticking to it on a daily basis.  There will be nights I won’t blog or miss something from my Coach.me list but I know I’m not taking it easy.  I’m busy with lots of things but I’m not regretting it also.  I’ve even added Tai Chi & Wing Shun to my list of activities… lol.  This is only on Fridays and it is at the same center.  Let’s see how it turns out.  Gotta push the envelop on my health & fitness and overall peace with my mind and body.

God Bless!

If you want to achieve widespread impact and lasting value, be bold. – HOWARD SCHULTZ

Greetings Family & Friends,

Happy Chinese New Year!

Year of the Monkey!

Xīn Nián Kuài Lè!

It has been a long time but I’m still staying on my health and fitness.  I’ve just been busy with my meditation classes, real estate investing workshop/meetings/mentorship, appointments for the two boys and the lovely everyday life.  Even tried out public speaking class last Tuesday.  I’m constantly juggling on how to add everything in a 24 hr schedule.  My list on Coach.me has been unchecked and broken some daily streaks in the process.  Spending the last week balancing things out and communicating with my wife to make sure I don’t commit to things while she has work.  I’m even going to plan and do Tai Chi & Wing Tsun kung fu class this coming Friday.

Life is too short and I’m experiencing that now. With the weight loss, I’m able to do more and now my challenges is balancing it all out and managing my time.  I’m shifting my focus towards one of my first passions and that is investing in real estate.  I’m putting more time towards that and learning from my mentor once a week.  Even practiced calling total stranger who are interested in our Rent to Own service.  Stepping out of my ‘Comfort Zone’!  Hence, the reason why I’m looking into public speaking classes via Toast Master in my local of New Westminster.  That was a scary experience for me but it was an amazing experience from the veterans there. Flawless!

I will still be working on my fitness & health on a personal level.  Going back to how I started the journey and focusing on my results.  I will still help those who want a one-on-one help.  I have two this month so I’m helping them get started with the 3 Day Detox/Refresh and we will take it from there.  I got my weight down to 170 lbs and I’m due to get my blood results done this Wednesday.  My next and hopefully last appointment with the ‘Healthy Heart Program’ at St Paul’s Hospital is on the 24th so I’m hoping I will graduate from it and move on to bigger Milestones!

We don’t know what the future may hold but I’m not willing to sit down and wait for it.  I can spend my time listen/watching the news of doom & gloom or focus my time towards now & into the future. Am I scared? Yes, I am scared because this is outside of my ‘Comfort Zone’!  But it is extremely valuable to my growth and to the future of my family & those I’ve connected to.  I’m introverted by nature but my reasons for living is bigger than me now.  It isn’t about me anymore.  It is about what I stand behind now and how I can be of service to mankind.  I don’t have much to give but I will do my best not to hold back anymore.  I wish everyone strive a little bit, like me, towards their bliss & towards their growth.  Even we can do this 30 mins a day then we can see we will be changed forever.  We won’t recognize ourselves tomorrow & even laugh on what we were but it is all worth the sacrifices.  Took me 35 years to see it but I won’t turn back from those experiences.  They are there to make me stronger and only I can lay the foundation from today & each day that follows.  So help me, God!

Your humble servants,

Ryan Jarata & Family

January 2016 Fitness Challenge: Last Day! First Day!

Standard

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”  –ELEANOR ROOSEVELT

Greetings Family & Friends,

Hope everyone had a wonderful start to week.  Technically, Sundays are the start of the week and that is when I start to work and plan the rest of my week.  Today, is the last day of my 3 Day Cleanse and first day of my 3 Week Fitness Challenge for January.  I am at awe tonight with how much I’ve lost so far.  I’ve lost about 3 lbs these 3 days(175.8 lbs -> 172.9 lbs).  What really is shocking is if you go back to Monday (Jan 4) I was at 180.3 lbs.  That is just over 7 lbs loss from the Christmas & New Year festivity.

It wasn’t easy from January 4th but my body didn’t have the huge cravings it did to end the year. It just shut off from the other foods that were available.  I had snacks here and there but I also refrained from eating out much.  Even had some family time last Thursday but I’ve made my adjustments with my meal plan. Can you even imagine what it would have been if I didn’t have the lunch at White Spot? But I’m grateful with time with family.

It’s been a great start to the year.  I’m near my lowest weight of 169 lbs back in April of 2015.  Hopefully, I hit that before the month ends. Like preparing every Sunday to have a balance week, I prepared 2016 by preparing back in December.  Life doesn’t have to be a complete makeover that we always do by making New Year Resolutions.  It’s about taking the Kaizen approach and improving yourself little by little each day.  And like one of my mentors I respect very much.  The New Year should be a refreshing of the mind for plans that you’ve already have in place.  In order for us to get the results that we want, we need to plant each day and sooner you will be able to harvest each day if you stay consistent and build momentum/compound from it.  All the very best on your journey!

God Bless,

Ryan Jarata

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird, that cannot fly.” – LANGSTON HUGHES

Greetings Family & Friends!

Hope everyone is having an awesome TGIF!  It’s been a busy last two days for me.  Just getting my workouts in and a few I missed Thursday night because of the whole day appointments.  Just another day in my life and part of the journey to be better overall.  I’m lucky that I took a paid day off today or else I would be going on 2 hrs of sleep for 42 hrs of being up. Just had my son’s allergy appointment yesterday afternoon with my monthly real estate workshop from REIN. Plus, my Friday Morning Odyssey servicing that happens twice a year.  Forgot to mention my dental appointment that I had on Wednesday.  It really was a busy week for me.  If you want to lose weight, have a busy schedule which I don’t recommend… lol.

I’ve lost about 2 lbs for those 2 days alone. Luckily, with my Shakeology I wasn’t hungry or tempted to snack.  Doing my best to turn over a new leaf and stay true to making positive changes for the better.  Strength is good so far but I need to get some needed rest tonight after I complete my workouts and a few more tasks.  I start my 3 Day Cleanse today to help detox my body for my appointment on February 24th.  I will do another 1 earlier on February.  My meals are ready for Sun to Mon.  It will overlap my 21 Day Fix Challenge Group that starts on Monday but it was such a busy last two days. Gotta do what you gotta do to stay on track.  The goal is to get to 150 lbs by February 24th for my visit to ‘The Healthy Heart Program’.  My cravings are way down now so I’m hoping to finally hit under 170 again since April of 2014.  This time around I’ll be more consistent and remove a lot of distractions that I’ve faced last year.  With 1 year of experience under my belt, I’m ready to take full control of my life and hopefully build more trust with my community as a Coach who will positively support you till you reach your goal.

There is a lot to do and achieve in this life. We only have one life to live so make the most of it. Progress yourself so that you can reach bigger achievements.  Don’t settle for being average. Don’t settle for being normal. Raise yourself and live an extraordinary life with your love ones.  The bigger you grow your circle, your community, the bigger your achievements are and creating a positive impact on people’s health & life for the better.  We can only teach happiness, health & prosperity if we’ve been through it and a product of it.  We must strive to be that guiding light, that example, for those to see it is possible.  It is great for you and your family but imagine if you can create that for others also.  You won’t be celebrating alone and you won’t be celebrating with people who don’t understand what you went through or a stronger connection that you went through the fire with them.  Strong connections create everlasting memories! So continue to build yourself and the rest will follow!

God Bless,

PS: Will be starting a new section of Gratitude to attract positive changes to my life.

I’m grateful today for:

  • Re-connecting with a friend I haven’t seen since last summer.
  • For my wife and kids for being so supportive of my journey to be healthy.
  • That I can help my friends re-connect and help each other out.
